Description

Join the Robin Chapel Choir in the magnificent Parish Church of St Michael’s Linlithgow.

This is an important year for the Robin Chapel as it marks the 80th anniversary of Lieutenant Robin Tudsbery’s passing in the final days of World War II

In his memory, his parents, Sir Francis and Lady Tudsbery, built The Robin Chapel in Craigmillar, within the grounds of the Thistle Foundation—a housing community they established for disabled veterans. As part of their legacy, they ensured that a professional choir would sing a choral service every Sunday at 4pm, a tradition that continues to this day

We are particularly looking forward to this concert give the strong connection between the Robin Chapel and Linlithgow. In 1921 Sir Francis and Lady Tudsbery moved from London to Champfleurie in Linlithgow when their son Robin was just 2 years old. He developed a deep love of nature from his mother and spent many happy hours exploring the woods around the family home.

During the war, Robin was entrusted with guarding King George VI, Queen Elizabeth, and their daughters, Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret. The young princesses grew especially fond of him, and in 1953, the newly-crowned Queen Elizabeth II attended the dedication of the chapel in his honour.

This concert will pair Fauré’s beautiful Requiem with music composed for major royal occasions including I was Glad by Parry and Zadok the priest by Handel.
